Today we go with Ed to Voun to pick up Glenna, and to Emon to pick up Ann. The energynauts plan a final farewell party on the space ship for the following Monday.
THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Twenty Two
ED:
I finished the wedding ceremony and saw Wills' family off on their family honeymoon.
As I looked around me, I realized that all of my work was done here, and also in Voun, Wale, and Emon. I had said good-bye to Adam after the wedding and invited him to come to our farewell party next week, and also Lt. Stars. We parted on the note that I would pick him and Lt. Stars up at 7 a.m., next Monday. Now it was time to round up Glenna and Ann and get back to the ship. I realized how much I had missed my friend, my wife, and our ship.
I thought myself to the Voun Supreme Court Building. Once there, I entered the building and asked for Miriam Lofts. I was sent to the fifth floor and walked down the hall to her office. I knocked, and the door was opened by Glenna, who shrieked when she saw me and then we gave each other a long hug and wiped our tears away.
Miriam came from around her desk and gave me a welcoming hug. The three of us felt like siblings rather than short-term friends. We had all gone through hell together.
"I have come to take my friend back to the ship," I explained. "I know you two have become very close. I understand that the heart bonds under terrible duress, but it is time that we get back to the ship and begin our personal lives again.
"Next Monday, a week from now, we are going to throw a party, at the ship, for the 15 of us. Glenna will come and get you at 7 a.m., next Monday morning. Could you also have General Patrick, Bond, Wills, Molly, Trev, and Julie with you?"
"Yes. I would be glad to round them up and have them waiting. Could we all meet outside of the City limits where I first met Glenna?"
"Sure," said Glenna. "I know just where you mean. It has become a very special place in my heart-with the pink and purple heather and the cries of the birds."
At which point, both Glenna and Miriam broke down in tears. They knew that they had a very limited time to enjoy each others company.
Miriam and Glenna also shared the knowledge that they both love their husbands with an unspeakably deep passion. Miriam had lost her husband ten years before, when he was hijacked by a roving band of Gog's soldiers. They had shot him in the head and stolen their car.
Miriam had buried him on her estate so that she could keep fresh flowers on his grave. It had been his memory that gave her the strength to lead her country to war with Gog.
The women wiped their tears and Ed gave each of them a quick hug.
"Well, I guess we know that we are going to miss each other a great deal. Is there any chance that I'll see you again, once you leave Kor?" asked Miriam.
"There is always a chance I guess," I answered. "I don't really know if there are rules about us returning, or what the etiquette would be, but if it is possible, we will return one day. I, myself, have come to care deeply for so many Korians-from all of your countries. I have become very close to Adam and would surely like to see him again."
"Well, I know I will be hoping and praying that one day Glenna will knock on my front door and I'll be home and we can continue our conversations. Lots of prayers!"
"Thanks Miriam," replied Glenna. "I feel the same about you. I will be praying that one day we'll meet again."
Glenna and Miriam finally got back to their business selves and Glenna assured Miriam that she would see her next Monday morning.
Glenna and I walked out of Piers to the spot where Glenna and Miriam had first met. We said a short prayer for aid, and then thought our way to the outskirts of Delta.
Taking the east-west road, we walked through Delta until we came to the Business office of the University of Kor. Going up to the sixth floor, we saw Alice sitting at her desk. When Alice saw us, she let out a war whoop and Lucy and Ann came running out of Lucy's office to see what the problem was.
On seeing us, Ann ran over to me and hugged me as tightly as she could. We started laughing like school children. It had been two months since we had seen each other, and we had both seen horrendous sights during that time.
Lucy watched the two of them with joy and knew she was keeping her great love for Bond a secret for now. She could understand their joy at being one again.
Tears fell quietly down Miriam's cheeks.
Tomorrow the energynauts have dinner at Le Span and then return to the space ship.
