GENERAL PATRICK CALLS THE SHOTS

General Patrick, a grizzled, older man, confronts Glenna and Miriam about the purpose of Glenna and her friends.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Fourteen

The generals rose from their chairs, but made no move to leave the room; they were watching General Patrick, a grizzled, older man, who has led the VRM for several decades. He was walking straight up to Miriam and he put out his hand and engulfed hers.

"Thank you Miriam. You have been my compatriot for many years and now you have given me a chance to become who I've always dreamed I could be. I will serve you to the death, and we will conquer Gog."

"Oh Samuel, thank you for your support; my purpose lies in your capable hands."

General Patrick turned on his heel and marched out of the room, followed by the other four generals.

"Wow," breathed Miriam, "I hardly know what to feel. I'm very proud of General Patrick. I didn't realize it would affect him so strongly. I must be very careful how I lead these men; these people. We must do the right things for the right reasons."

I sat there moved and crying into my handkerchief. My heart had really gone out to General Patrick. I could feel the strong undertow of will and commitment that flowed through Voun. These people are going to do whatever they set out to do.

Miriam and I went back to her office where she had several calls to make relating to her judgeship. At 10 a.m. Tuesday, she had to be in court, so she had me start studying maps of Voun so that I could understand future communications.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Miriam opened the door to find General Patrick with a look of determination on his face.

"Come in Sam; is there a problem?"

General Patrick came in, sat in the biggest chair he could find, and stretched out his legs. "Now Miriam," he said, "there is something you're not telling me. I caught it when you said it, but there was so much more under discussion that I didn't ask you about it at the time. What about this Cosmos business, and friends from the Cosmos? What and who are you talking about? I think that I deserve to understand this if you expect me to make correct decisions."

"I totally agree Sam, and I am sorry that I did not think to address that situation at the time.

"Glenna, would you like to tell General Patrick about yourself? I'd really appreciate it."

"General Patrick..." I began.

"Dear," said General Patrick, "we are all friends in this room. Just call me Sam, and you are again?"

"My name is Glenna Boyle. I am an energynaut and I have come to Kor, in a spaceship, from the dimension of Heaven, to help depose Gog.

"ONE has sent us-my husband, Tom, and Ed and Ann Nelson-to help Voun, Emon, Wale, and freedom-desiring Selves, unite and find a way to destroy Gog's dictatorship.

"ONE'S heart cannot tolerate genocide and slavery and sent us to listen to your prayers and desires and to find a way to guide you to be able to help yourselves overthrow oppression."

"You look like a Voun; is that your natural look?"

"No. I am pure energy and my body would look like light to you; I choose to look like a Voun for this mission so that you will be comfortable in accepting me."

"And what will you be doing to help the cause?"

"Any work that needs doing. Any support I can give to Miriam; any ideas I might have that would help the situation."

"And who is this ONE you speak of?"

"ONE is God in your language."

"I never put any stock in a god, but I guess your presence makes me reconsider my outlook.

"What is this about a space ship and what is that belt you are wearing?"

"This belt is my operational belt. This gun is a microwave ray gun that cooks your opponent from the inside out.

"Our ship is a silver oblong that is currently invisible."

"I sure would like to see that ship one day; it sounds incredible. Can you make yourself disappear, as a demonstration for me? Not that I doubt; I can see the truth in your eyes, but I'm just curious."

I hit the invisibility button and disappeared from view. General Patrick laughed out loud. "Now I've seen everything!" he said.

I switched the invisibility off and smiled at General Patrick.

"Miriam, what would you think of inviting General Patrick to the ship on Sunday? I think he deserves to see the ship."

"I agree Glenna. Sam, would you like to come with us on Sunday? It will be Glenna and I, and Bond Boyd."

"Yes. I more than want to go with you!"

"OK, meet us in this office at 6:45 a.m., on Sunday morning, and you will see some awesome sights," said Miriam.

General Patrick left afterwards and Miriam continued to prepare for tomorrow in the court room. I started my study session of Voun maps and topography.

Tomorrow Miriam delivers her radio address and then she tells Glenna of a plan for the two of them to give a series of Town Meetings to advise the people of Voun of what was going on and try to enlist new soldiers into the URA.

MIRIAM INSTRUCTS HER GENERALS IN WAR

Today we join Miriam as she gives a pep talk to her generals and rouses their fighting spirit.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Fourteen

GLENNA:

"How do I look?" asked Miriam.

"Very professional and very pretty also," I answered.

"Thank you so much."

We were off down the long halls until we arrived at a small auditorium. There, we arranged a table and set up for the meeting. Then Miriam read me her radio speech.

At 10 p.m., the top five generals in the Voun Army made their appearance, greeted Miriam solemnly, and introduced themselves to me. I sat over on the right side of the room and prepared to give Miriam my full attention.

"Welcome my dear friends, you met Glenna as you came in. She is a special counselor to me; my right-hand person.

"As you may have heard rumors, let me put things bluntly. We are at war with Gog and his army. Our allies are the Emons, the Wales, and the Selve underground Resistance Movement headed by Wills Haddon.

"We have three fronts to this war: first, there will be 4,000 of our mixed soldiers and officers that will be forming a Special Task Force to attack Gog's soldiers at the concentration and internment camps, and free the prisoners and slaves. They are being trained at the Wale armory.

"Secondly, before that commences, a special attachment will assassinate Gog in his bed, and when that is accomplished, a signal will be given and we will attack the camps.

"Thirdly, at the same signal, soldiers on the Emon and Voun borders with Selve, will march on Mano destroying any Selvean troops that they meet.

"General Alps, you are in command of our soldiers as they attack the internment camps; General Lepps, you are in charge of training what we hope will be at least 3,000 soldiers, and 120 officers, who volunteer after my speech tonight; General Drang, you will spread 2,500 men along the ocean boundaries of Voun and command them; General Wells, you will spread 1,500 men along the Mandel River. Starting a week from Monday, General Drang and General Wells you will begin to march your men to the border of Selve, searching for Selvean soldiers and killing and destroying the soldiers and their plans.

"Finally, General Patrick, you will be commander-in-chief for all Voun operations; from our first steps, to our last.

"I will be able to give you more information after I hear the results of my speech tonight and see what effects it causes, but General Alps, your work begins today as you prepare the 1,000 soldiers and 40 officers, that you will choose, to be on the Special Forces team. They need to be at the Wale armory by Saturday evening.

"General Lepps, you will need to coordinate, with Bond Boyd, the use of some of the salt-mine trucks to transport the Selve underground from our borders and on into Wale and the armory. Bond will be bringing the trucks back right away so that we can use them to transport our soldiers to the armory by Saturday night.

"Are there any questions?"

"Who decided all of these plans?" asked General Patrick.

"There is a 12 person team made up of Adam Coleman and Lieutenant Ted Stars of Wale; Lucy Prism and her secretary, Alice Almon of Emon; myself and Bond Boyd; Wills Haddon and Molly Gilbert from the SRM; and our friends from the Cosmos, the energynauts Thomas and Glenna Boyle, and Ed and Ann Nelson. We have been meeting at a secret location to iron out our treaties and make an all-over general plan of assault against Gog and his army."

"We have had faith in you for many generations, Dr. Lofts. You have led our country to peace and plenty, and it has only been in the last years that Gog has gotten so out of hand!" commented General Alps.

"I beg to differ! Gog has been killing and raping our countrymen for 10 years now, and we have always had to look out for slavery forages from Selve. I say, GREAT! It is about time we united and faced down Gog." shouted General Drang.

"I think you have made very cohesive plans, but now it is in our hands to implement those plans," remarked General Wells.

"Well, I agree with all of you, and I have a lot of work to do to get ready to flash-train 3,000 new soldiers and officers. I suggest we all agree to agree and begin to prepare ourselves for our tasks," said General Lepp.

"I thank each one of you gentleman for your support and quick grasp of the circumstances. Now, let us close our meeting and begin to ponder our fates and duties. I will be in my office, or the court room, or my own home, and I may be reached at any hour of the day or night. I am committed to this plan of action and believe that we shall win over Gog. All of our hearts are in this. All of our futures lie in this action."

Tomorrow General Patrick questions who those energynauts are and where they get their power from.

SOLDIERS GATHER AT THE WALE ARMORY

Today our friends at the armory gather and make their way to the space ship, and Glenna and Miriam have a joyous reunion in Voun.

THE GOD GAMES: Chapter Fourteen

Lucy's soldiers had come in Thursday night, two nights before, and Bond had gotten the trucks holding Wills men into Ento around 7 p.m., Friday night.

Adam had assigned Tom to sleep in the same room as Wills, and I still bunked with Lieutenant Stars. Bond had returned to Voun on another highway out of Ento.

We all had dinner in the mess hall, but there was quite a wait. There was plenty of food, but several hundred men stood in line to eat.

About 1 a.m., early Sunday morning, Bond came roaring into the armory with the Voun Special Forces contingent. He would travel to the ship with us tomorrow and then return to Voun with the trucks on Monday morning.

General Coleman gave orders to bivouac the thousand soldiers from Voun and additional tents started springing up over the base. The mess hall was open all night long, and it looked like it would stay that way for a while to come.

The officers were bunked in the officer's quarters where there was sufficient room for the number of expected officers.

We finally got to sleep about 3 a.m., and then were wakened again at 6 a.m. We hit the mess hall on the run and got hot coffee and fresh donuts. Then we policed our room and were back in Adam's office by 6:55 a.m. We were joined by Molly, Trev, and Julie by 6:57 a.m..

"Wow!" said Adam, "has this been a mess of porcupine quills! The response has been tremendous, and I have been driven hard to find the space for all of these men. Luckily, we have plenty of food to go around, and people from the farms surrounding Ento have been volunteering their barns to put up soldiers for the duration."

It's almost time to head back to the ship, said Bond, "should we stand in groups?"

General Coleman joined a circle forming around myself, with Lieutenant Stars and Bond completing our circle.

Tom gathered Molly, Wills, Trev and Julie with him and they held hands. I pushed the invisibility button, and then thought our way back to the ship. All nine of us appeared before the ship and we were delighted to see Lucy, Alice, and Ann already there.

GLENNA:

I arrived at the Supreme Court building and requested to see Miriam Lofts, if possible. The secretary made a phone call and then looked up and smiled.

"Mrs. Lofts said, 'Oh, wonderful!' and asked that you be sent to her immediately. She is on the fifth floor, room 510. Can you find that?

"Yes, I have been there before. Thank you for your help."

I took the elevator to the fifth floor and walked down the hall a bit to room 510. There was a sign on her door that said, "Judge Miriam Lofts, Supreme Court." I knocked and the door was thrown open by a very welcoming Miriam.

"Oh Glenna, you have no idea how glad I am to see you! Why are you here?"

We sat down across from each other at Miriam's desk, and Miriam let out a deep sigh.

"You know, I have the strength and power to make things come to pass in Voun, but your support will help clear and arrange my mind so I can give the best orders.

"In an hour, I am meeting with my five Generals to give them the low-down on what we are trying to accomplish here. I will introduce you as my right-hand advisor so they will give you respect and obedience.

I have set Bond a very large task to do. He will provide the salt mine trucks to Wills to get the greatest part of his troops into the armory at Ento. He will then bring the trucks back home and get ready to ship our soldiers for the Special Forces unit into Ento.

"This evening, I will be giving a speech on Voun radio for all of the citizens so they can understand what's going on now. Maybe you would listen to it and give me a few pointers?"

"I'd be glad to," I replied.

Miriam gathered her notes, put on her robes, fluffed her hair and powdered her face. She stood up and pulled herself up to her greatest height. "How do I look?" She asked.

"Very professional, and very pretty also," I answered.

Tomorrow we witness a meeting between Miriam and her generals as they discuss the new battle plans.

PREPARING AN ARMY FOR BATTLE

I must apologize for the formatting of yesterday's blog. I didn't catch the problem until much later in the day and I am so sorry for the mess that it was in.

Today Ed begins supervising the preparations for the incoming soldiers, and for the long march into Selve.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Fourteen

All of the officers looked like they could hardly wait to start off, so I dismissed them with each officer having his own list of 25 soldiers to work with, and I put Lieutenant James Lunt in charge of the detail.

The officers broke up the jobs with four units policing the mess hall, dispensary, and school barracks; four units policing all of the latrines and office buildings; six units took charge of cleaning the entire outside of the base; and six units tackled the 25 barracks, and two officers quarters.

By 6 p.m., you could eat off the ground or the latrines with no fear.

"You are all dismissed with a great deal of thanks. Have a good dinner and relax tonight, tomorrow we will be tending to salt bags and tents."

After breakfast and roll call on Tuesday morning we began to go through the warehouses and dig out the thousands of salt bags, the hundreds of six-men and two-men tents, and 5,000 blankets and groundcovers. We found 5,000 salt bags-all empty-and a huge quantity of salt, so we set 100 men to filling the salt bags. Each bag held about two cups of salt.

The rest of the men dug out all of the tents; they found 510 of them. Then every two men would set up a tent, patch any holes or loose seams it might have, and clean it thoroughly. The tents were checked for stakes and poles, and every tent had their requisite number of stakes and poles attached to them before being folded up once again until they were needed. One officer sent a contingent of men rounding up sledgehammers so that the stakes could be driven into the ground, and another two units of men washed, dried, and folded all of the blankets and ground covers.

We were done by 5 p.m., and the exhausted men called it another good day and they were excused to go to dinner and to enjoy some R&R before hitting the sack.

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday we tackled the hardest job of all; digging the 200 latrines, and building the stalls around them. We let the men loose at 2 p.m.. on Saturday afternoon, and they were totally exhausted, but 200 latrines were spread around the base; 10 latrines each, at 20 different locations. I ordered letters of commendation for the men's service jackets and went to report back to General Coleman.

Adam greeted me with joy and he was very pleased by my report. He pushed a large glass of rye across the desk to me and began to tell me what he had been accomplishing.

"Ted has been hard at work. I've had him set up a stock pile of food and condiments for the mess hall and then start regular shipments of food from our outlying farms to our storage and frozen-food lockers. It will take constant deliveries to keep up with 4,000 hungry men; I intend to keep the mess hall open 20 hours a day. I want the men to eat well because they each have a lot of work to do; a lot of studying to do, also.

"Ted has also called in the fishing fleets and they are going to provide us with three tons of fish a day; of all varieties.

"Ted also had the dispensary enlarged and brought in the army nurses from their homes to man it and get it stocked up and ready to go. We gave then the barracks closest to the mess hall and assigned them their own latrine.

"I have been getting the administration organized and prepared for the influx of 4,000 men and women. I had to totally revamp the Human Resources Department and send for-you would not believe how many-office supplies and typewriters; and then we recruited for women to take charge of the department. I was very surprised by the number of women who were willing to leave their homes for at least two months to serve in this army. They all know what the bottom line is, us or Gog, and they are happy to finally be able to actually do something to fight back.

"I have also written a training course for the newly enlisted men and have chosen 100 offices to take over the training of what will be 100 units of 50 men each, including new officers who will meet in three separate classes.

"Finally, I chose the best 50 carts and am having them refurbished to carry food and supplies to the front lines when we make our move on the camps."

On Saturday evening General Coleman, Lieutenant Ted Stars, Wills, General Oates, Tom and I settled down in Adam's office and had a round of rye.

General Coleman said that they had had a challenging week, trying to house and feed all of the soldiers that had already made it to the armory.

Tomorrow we finish Ed's adventures with General Coleman and begin a look at how Glenna is doing with Miriam.

ED ACCEPTS SEVERAL NEW CHALLENGES

Today we follow Ed as he goes to the Wale armory and receives several challenges from Adam.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Fourteen

ED:

I appeared at the entrance to the armory at 9:00 a.m. I went inside and asked the desk sergeant to announce me to General Coleman. I heard a yelp when I was announced, and suddenly the big man appeared in the door of his office and grabbed me up in his huge arms in a big bear hug; I could hardly breathe.

"Why are you here Ed? I don't care! I'm just glad you are."

He set me down. I caught my breath and said, "I'm here to help you in any way I can, I am, after all, your Lieutenant General."

"Well, that's just grand. I really need a man who can delegate, there's so much to do.

"I am going to give you 20 officers and 500 soldiers, to do some really important preparation work. If you do this, it will free Ted and me to take care of some of the administrative details.

"First, we need to clean and police the entire base; the grounds, the barracks, the mess hall, and all of the outbuildings.

"Second,

I heard a yelp when I was announced, and suddenly the big man appeared in the door of his office and grabbed me up in his huge arms in a big bear hug; I could hardly breathe.

"First, we need to clean and police the entire base; the grounds, the barracks, the mess hall, and all of the outbuildings.

"Second, we need to test and repair, if necessary, all of the big tents and pup tents and make sure we have sufficient ground covers, and blankets for each soldier.

"Third, we need to check and make sure we have, at least, 5,000 salt bags filled up and ready for a march.

"Fourth, we need to dig and set up latrines all over the base and especially where the soldiers will be bivouacked.

"Can you get a handle on all of these tasks all right?"

"Yes. I will get them all accomplished."

"I think that we shall aim for early Thursday afternoon, to become prepared for the expected new troops.

"I have already chosen 1,000 soldiers to come out of the field and become part of the Special Forces unit. They should all arrive today, so cleaning the barracks should be a first consideration."

Adam gave me a list of officers and said that he would have them come to my office in 30 minutes; he then walked me down the hall and showed me a nice office with a metal desk and chair, and seating for about 30 people. Next, he introduced me to the desk sergeant and told him which office I was in.

I settled into my office and found a bottle of rye in the bottom left-hand drawer of the desk.

There was a knock on the door, and the Sergeant announced the arrival of the 20 officers. I invited them in and they filed in and took seats. They each carried a notebook, and one of the men carried a set of blueprints for the base.

"Gentlemen, I do so welcome you to this meeting. I am in great need of your help and knowledge.

"We have been given the challenge of completing three tasks by Thursday afternoon, and another fourth task by Saturday a.m.  Lieutenant Stars is rounding up 500 soldiers to do those tasks, as you lead them, and they will be ready when we have finished this meeting.

"The four tasks are to prepare the base for the influx of approximately 4,000 soldiers expected between tonight and Saturday morning.

"We must clear and police the base; test, and repair-if necessary-the tents; make sure that we have 5,000 salt bags filled; and we need to dig and build about 200 latrines around the base, and particularly the bivouac area.

"I thought that all of us would work on cleaning the buildings and clearing and sweeping the grounds as our first priority."

I gave each of the officers, 25 men to work with. I told them that 1,000 Wale soldiers and approximately 30 officers would be arriving before dark.

Tomorrow Ed and his soldiers police the armory and accomplish an extraordinary amount of work. The first soldiers arrive.

ALTER YOUR LIFE

There is an instructive legend of the Middle Ages. It seems that a certain citizen was arrested by one of the barons and shut up in a dungeon by a ferocious looking jailer who carried a great key. The door of his cell shut with a bang. He lay in the dark dungeon for twenty years. Each day the big door would be opened with a great creaking: water and bread would be thrust in and the door closed again.

After twenty years the prisoner decided that he wanted to die but he did not want to commit suicide, so the next day when the jailer came he would attack him, and the jailer would then kill him. In preparation he thought that he should examine the door, so he turned the handle, and to his amazement the door opened. He found that there was no lock. He groped along the corridor and felt his way upstairs. At the top of the stairs two soldiers were chatting, and they made no attempt to stop him. He crossed the great yard. There was an armed guard on the drawbridge but he paid no attention to him, and he walked out a free man. He went home unmolested. He had been a captive, not of stone and iron, but of false belief. He had only thought he was locked in.

There is no need to be unhappy. There is no need to be disappointed, or oppressed, or aggrieved. There is no need for illness or failure or discouragement. There is no necessity for anything but an abounding interest and joy in life.

As long as you accept a negative condition at its own valuation, so long will you remain in bondage to it; but you have only to assert your birthright as a free man or woman and you will be free.

Success and happiness are the natural conditions of mankind. It is actually easier to demonstrate these things than the reverse. Bad habits of thinking and acting may obscure this fact for a time, just as a wrong way of walking or sitting, or holding a pen or a musical instrument may seem to be easier than the proper way, because we have accustomed ourselves to it; but the proper way is the easier nevertheless.

Refuse to tolerate anything less than harmony. You can have a happy and joyous life. But to do so you must seize the rudder of your own destiny and steer boldly for the port that you intend to make.

THE GRIM RESULTS OF BATTLE

We walk into the grim aftermath of a ferocious battle and bury our losses.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Thirteen

What a scene of destruction was before me. I couldn't let Molly and the children witness such a scene. Wills doctored his men with the medicines and bandages he had brought. He had a load of sugar beets and he cooked them and fed them to his men to relieve their suffering. It worked like a charm, and then Wills counted his losses. He had lost 80 men, among them 15 officers. He was shaking with rage but he immediately set up a burial detail to bury his lost men and all of the body parts that lay strewn around the whole camp.

Gog's remaining men had been hurt badly and had no sugar beets to help. They'd laid out the lost men that they could safely reach and set up a fire to burn their corpses. Then the rest of Gog's soldiers hobbled and forced their way back into Selve. There they found another unit of Gog's soldiers and the wounded were bandaged and then hidden in the woods. They were actually receiving a death sentence as none of them could live exposed to the elements for very long, and their fellow soldiers had no intention of coming back for them.

Wills surveyed the scene; fragments of body parts were collected and they and the severed heads were thrown into a ditch that they had dug. Wills' soldiers policed the grounds as best they could. They also managed to pick up a lot of empty shell casings and gathered them up to reload them one day; brass was expensive.

"Wills!" yelled Tom, "do you think it is safe to bring Molly and the children back to the carts?"

"It's as safe as we can make it, but they will have to remain in their cart."

"OK, I'll bring them back." I thought myself back to the ship and sat down and talked to Molly and the children.

"It's been a hard hit on both sides. 80 of our soldiers died and about 150 of Gog's men. There is a lot of blood and body parts. Wills says that you must stay in your cart the rest of the trip.

"The good thing is that Gog's soldiers have fled toward Mano and I am sure that Gog will now know that he is not the only force on Kor."

We locked up the ship, held hands, and were transported back to Wills' army and our cart.

There was blood everywhere and gruesome bits of bodies that had not been recovered yet. Trev and Julie surveyed the scene, then shuddered, and sat down in their cart where they could see nothing but the trees waving above and the odd butterfly and bird that drifted past. The hum of working insects filled the air and Wills shouted, "Pull out! Pull out! We do not know what lies ahead!"

Wills walked at the head of the men and carts. His sword was always unsheathed and he moved as a great lion; a giant.

We looked at him and could do no less, so we became lions and tigers in the cause of right; of light; of joy.

We traveled all day without stopping. We ate only two meals, then chewed on dried apples and biscuits, and drank from our flasks of water.

The trucks had beaten down the road for us, and we could travel fairly smoothly, so there were no more breakdowns for the carts.

We traveled on the rest of Friday with no further incidents, and when Veral began to set we put our carts in a circle, the lizards penned inside, and the duty officer circled the outside of the carts.

We slept fitfully that night, but no more trouble came along. Saturday morning we struck camp and began the final stretch of road through the mountains to the fields of Wale.

When we crossed the border into Wale, we were all stunned at the incredible richness of its soil and crops.

About 10 miles into Wale we were suddenly surprised by General Coleman and Ed. They said that they had heard of our troubles along the path and that they were there for extra protection. They had brought two units of soldiers with them. We were thankful that we had survived the attack, but felt great pain over our 80 losses, and we were only glad that we had been able to bury the lost men before we left.

General Coleman and Wills led our struggling little party into Ento where we were greeted wildly by Wills' other men.

General Coleman set Molly and the children up in his own home with his wife, Willow, and their three children. We promised to pick Molly and the children up at 6:00 a.m., on Sunday, and left them in cozy surroundings.

Tomorrow we join Ed as he helps out with General Coleman's plans for the armory and the new soldiers.

AMBUSHED BY GOG'S SOLDIERS

We follow Wills and Tom as they begin their march to the Wale armory.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Thirteen

I bunked with Trev for the night and we talked into the wee hours about the ship and what she could really do. He told me that he wished he could fly in it. I thought about that for a moment, and then realized that it might be useful to take an invisible flight over Kor and be able to get a quick idea of all that the planet really held, and also, perhaps spot the enemy as a bonus. I decided to take two hours next Sunday for a planet Kor "exploratory stealth operation."

We all arose before dawn and had a light meal of toast and tea. Then the drivers of the carts hitched up the lizards and we were on our way. 500 soldiers strode before us, and 500 soldiers followed the carts. The officers and Wills traveled along the line, attending to problems as they arose.

The "road" we followed, was really a worn trail covered with deep ruts and the rising roots of the trees above us. I maneuvered Mary around as many of the holes as possible, but the ride for passengers was very jolting. I was concerned for my passengers but Molly insisted they were all right as they were sitting on all the blankets and coats they had brought.

The first day passed without many problems arising and we slept well under the stars that night.

On Wednesday, we continued marching through the forest. Two carts lost wheels but Wills got them repaired quickly and we were on our way again. At 5:00 p.m., just as Veral was lowering her light, we came to the Salis River, and the borders of Voun. Here we set up camp for the night, and again we were able to rest peacefully.

Thursday morning we knew we would soon meet up with Miriam's young officer, Bond Boyd, who would get us as many trucks as needed to take our soldiers to the armory.

200 soldiers and 20 officers would stay with the carts to protect them; and us.

About 1:30 p.m., we saw ahead of us 20 huge trucks on the left-hand side of the road. As we came abreast of them a group of 30 or so Vouns came out to greet us.

Bond went straight to Wills and the two of them exchanged friendship hugs of acceptance and support. Bond said that he would take them on in to the armory, that way he could just return the trucks to Voun by a back road in order to then transport his own Voun soldiers to the armory.

It took about two hours to get everything and everyone settled into the trucks, and for the trucks to move on down the trail ahead of us.

We decided to camp overnight where the trucks had been parked. We staked Mary out and fed her; she seemed happy to be near the river.

We started a fire and fixed big pots of beans and kelp. We baked biscuits on our swords held over the flames. Trev and Julie were having a great time, and enjoying their grand adventure.

We were exhausted, and fell immediately to sleep, secure in the protection of Wills' guards at their outposts.

At 3:30 a.m. Friday morning, we were all suddenly awakened by shrieking and screechy orks and screes! I was sleeping on the cart's buckboard and I sat up and saw swarms of Gog's soldiers carrying torches and running pell-mell toward us.

I immediately jumped into the cart and reached for Molly's, Trev's, and Julie's hands. They grabbed onto my hands and I pressed the invisibility button on my belt with my elbow and then thought us to the ship. Molly and the children huddled together as I opened up the ship's hatch and then set them up in the dining nook. I made sure they had something to eat and drink and then I excused myself to go check on the convoy.

This scene was filled with Wills' men and Gog's men in a pitched battle; Gog's axes cut off Wills' men's heads and Wills' men swung back with their swords.

"To the guns!" yelled Wills, "take cover!" All of Wills' soldiers finished dispatching Gog's men who they had been fighting with and then ran for cover behind the carts and rocks. Suddenly bullets and long swathes of fire came streaming from Wills' and his men's weapons.

The Selve soldiers also took cover, and sent bullets and long swathes of fire into Wills' camp.

A group of Will's men snuck behind the Selve line and let loose with all of their gun power and flamethrowers. Selve soldiers who were set on fire went screaming into the woods; others jumped into the river where they were prime targets for Wills' men.

Wills' men used their automatic weapons to mow down as many of Gog's men as were in their line of fire. The rest of Gog's men followed their mates and fled into the woods.

Tomorrow we follow the battle to its conclusion and then push on to the Wale armory.

PREPARING FOR A FORCED MARCH TO WALE

Thomas helps Wills make plans for the trip to the Wale armory & counsels Wills on his feelings for Molly.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Thirteen

"Well," said Wills, "our biggest job is to transport our 1,000 soldiers across the wilderness of North Eastern Selve and the mountains surrounding Vulpan, and get them to the Wale armory before Saturday night. Whew! I'm exhausted talking about it!

"Miriam suggested using the big trucks from her salt mines to transport the soldiers to the armory. Her big trucks are used to the mountain trail-roads so all I really need to worry about, is the wilderness of Selve, itself.

"I'm so glad you came today, I know what I'd like you to do for me."

"Sure, what would you like me to do?" I asked.

"Would you drive Molly's cart and lizard to the armory? Then I know they will be safe, and the children know you and love you, so they will not be afraid. It's a lot for a child to comprehend, and they may see sights I wish they could be innocent of."

"I will gladly drive and protect Molly and the children. If we get into a battle situation I will immediately take Molly and the children and go to the ship until danger is passed, where there are more pleasant scenes for them to see.

"Say, Wills, could we speak somewhere privately for just a moment?"

"Come into the office. Molly, I'll be right back, just relax for a while."

When we were safely in the office, Wills said to me, "What do you need Tom? Is everything all right?"

"Wills, I sense a certain warmness in your approach toward Molly; is there love budding here? Of course you need not answer that, I ask only as a special friend who cares for you."

"Is it so obvious? I thought I was just being gentlemanly."

"Well you are, and it is beautiful and joyful to watch. However, Molly is still married, and the children have a father."

"Oh, no need to worry about my intentions Tom. I would never try to interfere between a husband and his wife, and besides, we have made a vow between us that there is no sex until we are both free and married."

"Ah ha!" I said to myself.

"Very noble Wills, and I give you all the credit if you can remain strong. Let me know if you ever need help."

"I will Tom. I give you my word."

We hugged each other without shame; we respected each other.

Wills had called in his officers from the field, and they appeared as we finished lunch. The 34 officers looked serious and determined; young and passionate. My heart went out to them. It seems that it is the young, strong, and brave, whose shoulders war inevitably rests upon; and here it was, young men leading other young men. Who could we afford to lose? Not a one of those rugged young faces so dedicated to life and preserving personal freedoms.

Kor was soon to know its greatest pain. I prayed the struggle would be a labor pain that would birth a new balance and freedom for all of its citizens.

Wills told his officers of the upcoming war against Gog and his soldiers. He told them that they were to go back to their men and get them prepared to travel, and then bring them into the camp; that they would begin the march to the Voun border in the morning.

You could see in the men's faces that they were excited by the plans of battle and that they just itched to get started on their orders. Wills dismissed them and let them get to work.

We spent the rest of the afternoon making lists of what we needed to go with us, and then decided which carts it would all be placed in.

Once we were organized we got down to the sheer grunt labor of loading the carts. Molly worked along with us, and then at the end of the day I helped her prepare and load her cart. Afterwards, Molly insisted that I wash and massage her lizard, Mary, and then spend some time with Mary getting to know her likes and dislikes and feeding her fresh fruit. I sincerely hoped I would be able to guide Mary in the morning; she certainly seemed like a sweet-natured creature.

Tomorrow Tom and Wills and their intrepid group of soldiers meet the Selves in battle.

THOMAS SUSPECTS A ROMANCE IN THE SRM

First we find Lucy, Ann, and Alice enlisting soldiers & officers for the URA, then Thomas appears at the SRM cabin and suspects romance is in the air.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Thirteen

The next morning we arrived at the University business office and set up tables with all the paperwork we would need to enlist a person in the URA. Lucy had called in several doctors to give army physicals to our new enlistees, and Alice sat at her desk and was prepared to dole out the $1,000 in gold coins to each new recruit.

The day brought at least a thousand applicants who were healthy and passed all of the criteria. We had 200 professors who signed up for officer's duty and 810 men and women who signed up to be soldiers.

Once signed up, the new enlistees were sent home to pack their duffels. They would return tomorrow at 6:00 a.m. and be transported to the Wale-Emon border. 1,000 of the old ERM soldiers would be used for the Special Forces unit, and they would be going to the Wale armory under the leadership of General Oates, who was the active commander-in-chief of Lucy's current ERM.

We kept receiving enlistees all week, and by Saturday afternoon we had sent a total of 1,000 ERM soldiers and officers to General Coleman. We had enlisted a total of 300 officers and 4,000 soldiers, and those new soldiers and 1,000 of the old ERM soldiers were all sent to patrol the Wale-Emon border.

Lucy called all of her officers to a meeting in the business office and told them the plans for overcoming Gog. She assigned soldiers to each officer and she used the current ERM officers to lead the new officers and help them command the new soldiers.

Her plan was to ship 1,000 of the current ERM personnel and 4,000 of the new recruits to the border of Wale and Emon and then have them march to the border of Selve, killing any Selve soldiers they should happen upon. That gave her 5,000 soldiers to search and clear all of Emon from Selve invaders and 1,000 soldiers for the Special Forces unit.

By Saturday evening, a great deal had happened in Emon, and Lucy and Alice were both exhausted and looking forward to a restful and interesting Sunday.

We went to bed early, and at 6:00 a.m. Alice knocked on Lucy's front door and we all had a light breakfast together.

At 6:59 a.m., we held hands and I thought our way back to the ship.

It was glorious to see the ship again, and we were seconds there before anyone else.

                                                       __________________________

THOMAS:

I left the ship at 10:59 p.m. and appeared at the clearing in the Vorask Forest by 1:00 p.m.

Wills and Molly were startled to see me appear before them, as they had no idea I was coming to them at all this week.

"Tom! Tom! Is that really you? How great this is! But why are you here now?" questioned Wills.

"Hello Wills and Molly! Where are Trev and Julie?"

"Oh they're inside doing school work. We usually have them study for three hours each day. It gives us a spot of time to be alone and work our ideas through. Afterwards, we let the children play while we fix lunch and we are then free to work for the rest of the day light.

"So why are you here now?"

"My friends and I decided to spend our week days with our Korian friends, helping out in any way we can, without actually making decisions, or doing what you can do for yourselves.

"We have a great deal of respect for all of your abilities and we know you will be able to succeed-by sheer force of will-in winning this war against Gog."

"We simply won't stop until the Wales and the interned are set free, and Selve will become a democracy...as I live and breathe she will." exclaimed Wills.

"I know you will, Wills. You are a strong and ethical man. Well, let's sit down and see how I can best be of help to you."

I watched with interest how carefully Wills brushed off Molly's chair before she sat down, and I wondered if there could be romance in the air; I thought I'd keep my thoughts to myself about it though.

Tomorrow Thomas and Wills discuss their army's movements and Thomas confronts Wills about his feelings for Molly.

THE RADIO ADDRESS THAT CHANGED EMON

Today Lucy gives her speech to all of Emon and lays out the new plans that will save Emon & all of Kor.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Thirteen

Alice left for home, very happily, and Lucy showed me the exercise room and spa which was two floors below her office. There were exercise equipment and a lap pool and then in the Lady's room, hot tubs, showers, and massage tables. We worked out on the treadmills and then took a nice tepid shower.

When we were all spruced up, we returned to Lucy's office where she got her purse and her speech and we then walked over to the college where the radio station was located.

Lucy spoke clearly and distinctly as she addressed the people of Emon:

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I'm sorry to disturb your evening with the sad news I bear.

"We are at war with the Selves. Our allies are Wale, Voun, and the Selve Resistance Movement.

"For the length of the war, the University will be closed. I am asking all professors to consider volunteering time as officers in our newly formed URA, or Underground Resistance Army. The URA is being commanded by General Adam Coleman, who is the leader of the Walean Army.

"I am asking that all students and citizens who can, voluntarily join the URA. There will be $1,000 in gold for you when you sign up.

"We estimate that the war may last as long as two months. During those two months-or for the duration of the war-we are asking that you  not trade with Selve in any way, particularly with foodstuffs. It will be hard on the Selves, but they will not starve if they take up fishing and harvesting kelp, but they probably will be enraged at having to work hard in order to eat, and that may be enough to break the back of Gog.

"Lastly, we plead with anyone with a firearm, or other weapon, that they could loan to our soldiers, to please bring them forward and they shall be returned to you after the battles are over.

"I know that this is coming out of the blue, for most of you, but we can no longer sit by and tolerate Gog's genocide and enslavement policies. If we do not stop him, we do not deserve our own freedom. So today, all across Kor, you will hear this message to depose Gog, free all the slaves, and save Walean lives.

"We must not back down. We must speak out loud against slavery and genocide.

"You must know that across the Selve border, West of Voun, are labor concentration camps, and internment camps that kill more than 5,000 people a month. The Selve soldiers dig mass graves, then they have the prisoners line up along the edges of the pits and mow them down with automatic weapons so that they fall face forward into the grave. Shot in the  back by the Selve soldiers, which just shows what cowards the Selves are.

"If you desire to sign up for the URA, come to the University office building, first floor, starting tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Also, if you would have vehicles, or carts and lizards-that you don't need for two months-would you please loan them to us? Alternately, if you would just let us borrow a vehicle or cart for a day or two, we can at least use them for transporting soldiers to the Wale armory.

"Thank you for your kind attention tonight and we will remain here if you have any questions you'd like to ask. Good night, my dear Emon friends."

We were surrounded by students and teachers all talking at once, so Lucy sat on a chair by the stage and fielded questions. It took about two hours for the questioning to slow down, and everyone seemed content-most usually thrilled-with Lucy's answers. The most powerful feelings seem to be, "It's about time we took action; I'll enlist right now!"

At about 10:00 p.m., Lucy and I freed ourselves and walked to Lucy's apartment; I was going to be living with her during the week, until we returned to the ship.

Whiskers, Lucy's cat, managed a healthy stretch when we entered the door and then acted as if we had never come home. Lucy said he was pouting because she was late fixing dinner for him, so she quickly made him some fish.

Lucy turned on the radio and we listened to the responses to her speech while we fixed a big salad. It seemed as if Lucy had really struck a note in her countryman's hearts. We both felt hope for the future.

Tomorrow there is a huge response to Lucy's radio speech and Thomas arrives at Wills' cabin.

LUCY & ANN PREPARE TO BUILD AN ARMY

Ann  arrives in Emon to assist Dr. Lucy Prism in her preparations to strengthen the ERM, and interact with the URA.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Thirteen

ANN:

I arrived at Lucy's office at 1:00 p.m. on the Monday afternoon following our first business meeting and Alice greeted me with a hug. We entered Lucy's office to find her hard at work.

"Oh, Ann! How good of you to come. What brings you here today? I didn't think I'd see you until Sunday," exclaimed Lucy.

"All of us decided that we'd like to offer our Korian friends our services in any way we can be of help. I'm at your disposal until next Sunday morning, when we return to the ship," I replied.

"I'm overwhelmed with joy to have you with us. I could really use your help.

"Right now, I'm working on a speech I'm giving on the radio tonight. I'm asking for volunteers to enter the URA. I'm closing the college until the war is over. I'm asking the professors who can, to become temporary officers in the URA, and the students to become soldiers.

"I'm also asking the citizens not to do business with the Selves until the war is over. That should give everyone something to think about."

"Well, that sounds like a great speech," I responded, "and I like your idea about the students and professors joining the URA temporarily. We can really use them."

"I am making sign-up posters to post around Delta," said Alice, "and the campus. I am also preparing the serviceman's record jackets for a hopeful 5,000 that will sign up."

"Well," I said, "how about if I go out with Alice to hang the posters and then come back and listen to your speech?"

"That sounds fine for now. I have a lot of work to do in able to close the campus. This evening we can go to an early dinner and when we get back I'd like to go over some service records and decide who to put in charge of the platoons of men.

"Then we have to think about transportation of the Special Forces troops to the armory. We have a lot of trucks, buses, and carts, and we'll have to organize them so that we can take care of first priorities, first, and yet get everything necessary done in time."

I let Lucy go back to writing her radio speech, and I helped Alice finish making posters. By 3:00 p.m., Lucy had finished her speech and Alice and I had a large stack of posters.

"That's it girls," yawned Lucy. "It's time for a break and some food and drink. Dibs on the restroom first, but I'll be quick."

We all washed up, and then went for a walk to Le Span. We were seated at Lucy's favorite table and ordered glasses of blackberry juice. We ate broiled blue fish steak and kelp, roast acorn squash, tossed garden salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and for dessert, we had triple blueberry deep-dish yogart, and apple juice and water to drink. There were also big puffy biscuits on the side.

We finished eating and then had a cup of green tea as we relaxed for a few moments.

After dinner, we walked back to Lucy's office. Lucy practiced her speech, and Alice and I took a load of posters and placed them around the college campus. We had several people come up and ask what was going on. We simply told them that they should listen to the radio at 8:00 p.m. for some very important news.

When we had hung up all the posters we had made; we returned to Lucy's office to see what else needed to be done.

Lucy had us sit down while she read us her speech. We gave her a few tips, which she graciously took, but it was an excellent speech overall.

"Let's go to the gym and exercise for a while," said Lucy, "and then take a quick shower and get ready for the broadcast. Alice, you feel free to go home and play with your baby and we'll meet you back here at 7:00 in the morning.

Tomorrow we hear Lucy's radio speech and her challenge to the Emon people.

EASY DOES IT!

A visit with the teachings of Emmet Fox:

What you concentrate upon you bring into your life. Many people fail to concentrate successfully because they think that concentration means will power. They suppose that the harder they press the faster they get through. But that is quite wrong.

Think of the photographic process. The secret of a clear picture lies in focus. You focus your camera lens steadily for the necessary length of time. Suppose I want to photograph a vase of flowers. I place them in front of the camera and keep them there. But suppose I snatch away the vase and hold a book in front of the camera, and then snatch that away, and hold up a chair, and then put the flowers back for a few moments. Youy know what will happen to my photograph. It will be a crazy blur. Is not that what people do to their minds when they cannot keep their thoughts concentrated for any length of time! They think health for a few minutes and then they think sickness or fear. They think prosperity and then they think depression. Is it any wonder that man is so apt to demonstrate the "marred image"?

It is always good to make a practical experiment, so I advise you to take a single problem in your life-and just change your mind concerning your problem and keep it changed for a month, and you will be astonished at the results. If you really do keep your thought changed you will not have to wait a month for results.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The key to life is to build in the mental equivalents of what you want, and to expunge the equivalents of what you do not want. You build in the mental equivalents by thinking with clearness or definitness, and interest. Remember clarity and interest; those are the two poles. If you want to be healthy, happy, prosperous, doing a constructive work, having a continuous understanding of God, you think, feel, and get interested in these ends. What we call "feeling" in connection with thought is really interest. Ninety-nine times in a hundred the reason why people do not demonstrate is that they lack feeling in their desires or prayers.

How are you going to expunge the wrong mental equivalents? Suppose you have a mental equivalent of resentment, or of unemployment, or of criticism, or of not understanding God. The only way to expunge a wrong mental equivalent is to supply the opposite. The right thought automatically expunges the wrong thought. If you say: "I am not going to think resentment anymore," what are you thinking about except resentment? The key to the management of your thinking, and therefore, the key to the management of your destiny, is to substitute an affirmative thought for a negative thought. "The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me... (Psalm 138:8).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have an absolutely wonderful new week and may all of your righteous desires be fulfilled before your very eyes.

A NEW PLAN FOR THE ENERGYNAUTS

We are at the space ship and the energynauts are waking up the morning after the first war-planning meeting with the Korian leaders.

THE GOD GAMES: The Legend of KOR...Chapter Twelve

We awoke early the next morning and sat down to a breakfast of pancakes and fresh fruit. We decided that we would spend the first hours of the day preparing the ship for next week's business meeting.

Ed and Tom went through the ship's operating system and then went outside to wash off her hull.

Glenna and I cleaned the inside of the ship and then prepared a meal for our guests plus lots of goodies for Trev and Julie and the rest of the group.

We sat in the dining nook, and Tom looked around at us. "Everything looks great guys, and it sure does smell nice in here! It is time to pack a bag for the week and prepare ourselves for a lot of work ahead of us.

"This afternoon each of us will return to our friends, and give them whatever help they need, and stay with them until we bring them back here on Sunday morning at 7:00 a.m. Does that sound right to all of you?"

"It sounds like a good plan to me," said Ed, and Glenna and I also approved.

We all spread out over the ship and turned ourselves to packing and to personal preparations on our projects.

When we were packed we gathered by the door to await Tom's final instructions.

"We shall all give our best to our friends," said Tom, "but keep in mind that we should not do what they are capable of doing for themselves.

"Have you checked out your operational belt yet?"

We all took fifteen minutes to check our belts and they all were working perfectly.

Before we left the ship, we joined hands and asked ONE to help us as we guided our new friends to a victory over Gog.

With final hugs and kisses over we pressed our invisibility buttons and thought our way to our various friend's presence.

Tomorrow we introduce some new prose and poetry. Thank you for your presence, I really appreciate your support.

THE HANGING OF THOMAS RILEY

Today we are at one of Gog's political rallys in the huge Fuseball Stadium.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Twelve

The limousine stopped just short of the crowds of people and Gog struggled to get out of the back seat.

The huge crowd erupted into roars of Gog! Gog! Gog!

Between the people and Gog's dais was a newly-built gallows; deserted at the moment.

Gog lumbered up the stairs to the lectern and saluted the crowd, "Whale the Wales! Whale the Wales!" All the Selves responded, "Gog! Gog! Gog!"

"Ladies and gentlemen, we have a special treat for you today. Some of you may have heard that our soldiers were ambushed by the forces from Voun and soundly routed. This, of course, is a lie! We destroyed their troops within 10 minutes but, in order to undermine my authority, one of our soldiers started the rumor. He is a traitor against me, and against all of you who love me.

"I can handle that he undermines me, but I cannot tolerate that he would undermine your love for me!" Gog roared, smashing his fist down on the lectern.

"So today we are going to start the practice of hanging traitors in public places, and tonight will be our first hanging of a traitor. From this night forward, every traitor will be hung in public view."

There was whistling and stomping and wild orks from the crowd as they showed their total support of Gog's new policy. Then, "Gog! Gog! Gog!" and thoughts to "Kill! Kill! Kill!"  A hologram of hate filled the stadium.

There was a faint beating of drums, coming closer and closer and then a large military band playing a funeral march marched into the stadium and up to Gog's dais where they then played, "Hail to Gog." When they stopped playing they stood at attention before him.

KLOMP, KLOMP, KLOMP came the platoons of soldiers and cavalry. Around the stadium they marched, then came to a stop behind the band, and stood at attention.

"At ease!" said Gog, and all relaxed, and the soldiers and officers filled in the space surrounding the gallows.

"Give me your attention," said Gog, and all eyes were on him, and all was perfectly still.

Suddenly a small drum roll started, and a floodlight picked up the presence of a single figure, with a hood covering his head and his arms tied behind his back, surrounded on four sides by soldiers with their bayonets drawn.

Slowly, the condemned man walked to the gallows, looking neither to the left nor to the right, but straight down, as if begging the ground to swallow him up in the next step.

All of the participants reached the gallows and the soldiers goaded the condemned man up the stairs with the point of their bayonets. Thomas Riley stood motionless on top of the gallows until he was pushed under the hangman's noose, and the noose was put around his neck and tightened.

There was total silence in the whole stadium, and then Gog spoke again.

"This condemned man is known as Thomas Riley. He is guilty of treason and shall be hung for his crime tonight. Death to traitors!"

And the crowd began to shriek, "Death to traitors! Death to traitors! until the rhythm shook the grandstand.

"NOW!" commanded Gog, and the hangman released the trap door.

Private Thomas Riley, 19 years old, and having told only the strictest truth, swung in the evening breeze.

"Does any man, or woman, want to end up like this?" Gog demanded of the crowd.

"No!" screamed the crowd.

"Then do not become traitors!

"That is all for this evening my friends. Go to your homes in peace, knowing that a traitor in our midst has been eradicated and we are now free again."

Fireworks exploded in the night air; red, green, yellow, and blue. The colors reflected off of Mrs. Riley's tears as they streamed down her face..

Gog returned to his limousine, and rubbing his belly, he thought with great pleasure on how well his plan had worked. Now no Selve would dare to speak out against him.

Tomorrow the energynauts prepare to rejoin their friends and volunteer to work for their friends in any capacity needed.
