It is Thursday, November 1st, and I have just gotten back into my apartment; I have been holed up at my son's for the duration. We stayed between David's apartment and the 17th floor where the generator gave us one plug-in to charge our batteries with and to let people use their nebulizers. My grandson, William, has just gotten over pneumonia so he was still needing a nebulizer treatment 3 times a day.
Most people stayed in the building and there was a large crowd in the lobby and up on the 17th floor. Everyone helped one another with food and water. Several elderly persons had not been prepared with food and water and David ended up fixing food for them & providing bottled water.
The hurricane hit with 90 mph winds and did a lot of damage to some parts of the Boardwalk, particularly the inlet whose Boardwalk landed up on a downtown street. Houses near the water were filled with sand and water and residents are not yet returning. Governor Christy closed Atlantic City down to anyone who was not already here. He was furious that some of us had stayed on, but there was no where for most of us to go and most people did not have transportation. I am concerned for the poorer residents that stayed and the elderly. There is only one grocery store in Atlantic City, but a few Spanish stores (room size stores) have opened their doors. Governor Christy said that any merchant selling us food or water would be imprisoned, and so only a few brave store owners opened up.
We have electricity in our building as of 4:00 a.m. this morning and now we have television also. Most homes do not have electricity and no word-up to a week or more 'til they get things fixed-on when most homes and businesses have power. The drug stores, gasoline stations, banks, almost everything is frozen closed with no date known for their opening. So if you are not stocked up you will reach a point when you may be in serious trouble. I will run out of pain medicine in 2 days, so I am praying that my drug store will be opening in two days. Otherwise,,,oh well. And with the banks closed so many of us will not be able to access our monthly checks, and if you receive your money by check, you may not have any means of getting it cashed (or indeed receiving it at all as the Post Office is not delivering) so you won't have money when the stores do open. I kind of expect that the stores will be a mad house when they do open up. Maybe even some looting and certainly pushing and shoving.
I will keep writing about the conditions with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, but for now we join Ann and Ed as they prepare to go to heavenly father's and mother's home to greet their relatives and friends that have passed before.
THE GOD GAMES: Heaven & Hell...Chapter Thirty Eight
After resting for a while we got up and walked down the pine-needle strewn path to the road that led to father's house. As we approached, we could see that all the lights were on and music came pouring out the windows and doors. We could hear people talking and laughing and we hurried our steps to be near them.
Ralph opened the door to our knock and swept me off my feet in a big bear hug, how great to see daddy again! Then Lucile came up and hugged me, followed by Charley who was looking great. He had a big smile on his face and he almost laughed when he talked. He hugged me and did a little dance with me and told me he was happy and content and that all had worked out for him. Then I heard Becky's laughter filling the room and I stepped inside the house so I could see her. She came running towards me and we hugged each other with all of our might, I was delirious with joy to see her again. Then Carol was next hugging and kissing me; it felt so good to see her again.
I saw Glenna waiting patiently for me by a window filled with flowers. I walked over to her and gave her a great big hug and a big "thank you" from the bottom of my heart.
"You did a fine job," Glenna said, "you were able to get through all of your Earth experiences and still maintain a heart of love; I am glad to have helped you though all of the sticky parts, it was a great collaboration."
Ed came and took my arm, he moved me around the room so that I could re-meet all of my family and friends. There must have been more than a hundred people in the room for my homecoming. I saw Charles and Bruce and shared some loving time with them; then I saw Aunt Irene and Aunt Marion, Uncle Lee, Uncle Robert and Uncle Walter. Aunt Fannie and Uncle Richard were there, as well as Daddy's other brothers and sisters.
