THE RADIO ADDRESS THAT CHANGED EMON

Today Lucy gives her speech to all of Emon and lays out the new plans that will save Emon & all of Kor.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Thirteen

Alice left for home, very happily, and Lucy showed me the exercise room and spa which was two floors below her office. There were exercise equipment and a lap pool and then in the Lady's room, hot tubs, showers, and massage tables. We worked out on the treadmills and then took a nice tepid shower.

When we were all spruced up, we returned to Lucy's office where she got her purse and her speech and we then walked over to the college where the radio station was located.

Lucy spoke clearly and distinctly as she addressed the people of Emon:

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I'm sorry to disturb your evening with the sad news I bear.

"We are at war with the Selves. Our allies are Wale, Voun, and the Selve Resistance Movement.

"For the length of the war, the University will be closed. I am asking all professors to consider volunteering time as officers in our newly formed URA, or Underground Resistance Army. The URA is being commanded by General Adam Coleman, who is the leader of the Walean Army.

"I am asking that all students and citizens who can, voluntarily join the URA. There will be $1,000 in gold for you when you sign up.

"We estimate that the war may last as long as two months. During those two months-or for the duration of the war-we are asking that you  not trade with Selve in any way, particularly with foodstuffs. It will be hard on the Selves, but they will not starve if they take up fishing and harvesting kelp, but they probably will be enraged at having to work hard in order to eat, and that may be enough to break the back of Gog.

"Lastly, we plead with anyone with a firearm, or other weapon, that they could loan to our soldiers, to please bring them forward and they shall be returned to you after the battles are over.

"I know that this is coming out of the blue, for most of you, but we can no longer sit by and tolerate Gog's genocide and enslavement policies. If we do not stop him, we do not deserve our own freedom. So today, all across Kor, you will hear this message to depose Gog, free all the slaves, and save Walean lives.

"We must not back down. We must speak out loud against slavery and genocide.

"You must know that across the Selve border, West of Voun, are labor concentration camps, and internment camps that kill more than 5,000 people a month. The Selve soldiers dig mass graves, then they have the prisoners line up along the edges of the pits and mow them down with automatic weapons so that they fall face forward into the grave. Shot in the  back by the Selve soldiers, which just shows what cowards the Selves are.

"If you desire to sign up for the URA, come to the University office building, first floor, starting tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Also, if you would have vehicles, or carts and lizards-that you don't need for two months-would you please loan them to us? Alternately, if you would just let us borrow a vehicle or cart for a day or two, we can at least use them for transporting soldiers to the Wale armory.

"Thank you for your kind attention tonight and we will remain here if you have any questions you'd like to ask. Good night, my dear Emon friends."

We were surrounded by students and teachers all talking at once, so Lucy sat on a chair by the stage and fielded questions. It took about two hours for the questioning to slow down, and everyone seemed content-most usually thrilled-with Lucy's answers. The most powerful feelings seem to be, "It's about time we took action; I'll enlist right now!"

At about 10:00 p.m., Lucy and I freed ourselves and walked to Lucy's apartment; I was going to be living with her during the week, until we returned to the ship.

Whiskers, Lucy's cat, managed a healthy stretch when we entered the door and then acted as if we had never come home. Lucy said he was pouting because she was late fixing dinner for him, so she quickly made him some fish.

Lucy turned on the radio and we listened to the responses to her speech while we fixed a big salad. It seemed as if Lucy had really struck a note in her countryman's hearts. We both felt hope for the future.

Tomorrow there is a huge response to Lucy's radio speech and Thomas arrives at Wills' cabin.
