General Patrick, a grizzled, older man, confronts Glenna and Miriam about the purpose of Glenna and her friends.
THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Fourteen
The generals rose from their chairs, but made no move to leave the room; they were watching General Patrick, a grizzled, older man, who has led the VRM for several decades. He was walking straight up to Miriam and he put out his hand and engulfed hers.
"Thank you Miriam. You have been my compatriot for many years and now you have given me a chance to become who I've always dreamed I could be. I will serve you to the death, and we will conquer Gog."
"Oh Samuel, thank you for your support; my purpose lies in your capable hands."
General Patrick turned on his heel and marched out of the room, followed by the other four generals.
"Wow," breathed Miriam, "I hardly know what to feel. I'm very proud of General Patrick. I didn't realize it would affect him so strongly. I must be very careful how I lead these men; these people. We must do the right things for the right reasons."
I sat there moved and crying into my handkerchief. My heart had really gone out to General Patrick. I could feel the strong undertow of will and commitment that flowed through Voun. These people are going to do whatever they set out to do.
Miriam and I went back to her office where she had several calls to make relating to her judgeship. At 10 a.m. Tuesday, she had to be in court, so she had me start studying maps of Voun so that I could understand future communications.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Miriam opened the door to find General Patrick with a look of determination on his face.
"Come in Sam; is there a problem?"
General Patrick came in, sat in the biggest chair he could find, and stretched out his legs. "Now Miriam," he said, "there is something you're not telling me. I caught it when you said it, but there was so much more under discussion that I didn't ask you about it at the time. What about this Cosmos business, and friends from the Cosmos? What and who are you talking about? I think that I deserve to understand this if you expect me to make correct decisions."
"I totally agree Sam, and I am sorry that I did not think to address that situation at the time.
"Glenna, would you like to tell General Patrick about yourself? I'd really appreciate it."
"General Patrick..." I began.
"Dear," said General Patrick, "we are all friends in this room. Just call me Sam, and you are again?"
"My name is Glenna Boyle. I am an energynaut and I have come to Kor, in a spaceship, from the dimension of Heaven, to help depose Gog.
"ONE has sent us-my husband, Tom, and Ed and Ann Nelson-to help Voun, Emon, Wale, and freedom-desiring Selves, unite and find a way to destroy Gog's dictatorship.
"ONE'S heart cannot tolerate genocide and slavery and sent us to listen to your prayers and desires and to find a way to guide you to be able to help yourselves overthrow oppression."
"You look like a Voun; is that your natural look?"
"No. I am pure energy and my body would look like light to you; I choose to look like a Voun for this mission so that you will be comfortable in accepting me."
"And what will you be doing to help the cause?"
"Any work that needs doing. Any support I can give to Miriam; any ideas I might have that would help the situation."
"And who is this ONE you speak of?"
"ONE is God in your language."
"I never put any stock in a god, but I guess your presence makes me reconsider my outlook.
"What is this about a space ship and what is that belt you are wearing?"
"This belt is my operational belt. This gun is a microwave ray gun that cooks your opponent from the inside out.
"Our ship is a silver oblong that is currently invisible."
"I sure would like to see that ship one day; it sounds incredible. Can you make yourself disappear, as a demonstration for me? Not that I doubt; I can see the truth in your eyes, but I'm just curious."
I hit the invisibility button and disappeared from view. General Patrick laughed out loud. "Now I've seen everything!" he said.
I switched the invisibility off and smiled at General Patrick.
"Miriam, what would you think of inviting General Patrick to the ship on Sunday? I think he deserves to see the ship."
"I agree Glenna. Sam, would you like to come with us on Sunday? It will be Glenna and I, and Bond Boyd."
"Yes. I more than want to go with you!"
"OK, meet us in this office at 6:45 a.m., on Sunday morning, and you will see some awesome sights," said Miriam.
General Patrick left afterwards and Miriam continued to prepare for tomorrow in the court room. I started my study session of Voun maps and topography.
Tomorrow Miriam delivers her radio address and then she tells Glenna of a plan for the two of them to give a series of Town Meetings to advise the people of Voun of what was going on and try to enlist new soldiers into the URA.
