Today, Molly takes her children and runs away from her husband, Rave. She flees to the Vorask Forest and finds the Selve Resistance Movement (SRM).
THE GOD GAMES: Legend of KOR...Chapter Eight
Night after night Molly tossed and turned on her bed. She had so many questions about Gog and how he was exterminating the Wales. She could not wrap her mind around the issue. She absolutely knew that the Wales had done nothing to deserve Gog's persecution.
Molly prayed for an answer to her dilemma. If she didn't speak out against Gog she would not be able to live with herself; but if she spoke out, her husband, Rave, would take the children and leave her. Her children were her greatest love in life, but she loved God even more, and would do what she felt was the right thing to do. She had been having a recurring nightmare of a little Walean girl running from a Selve soldier and screaming for help. In the dream she could not quite reach the girl to help her. Molly ran faster...
Molly woke up in a cold sweat; had she been able to help the little Walean girl? She knew she had an answer to her prayers. She must speak out for the Wales, she must find a way no matter the cost to herself, but if she could plan things well, maybe she could keep her children and raise them herself.
Molly felt a plan develop in her mind. She had heard about a Selve Resistance Movement that centered itself somewhere in between the Glandis and the Salis Rivers, somewhere in the Vorask Forest. If she could find this underground army, perhaps they could give her advice on how to proceed to be a help of some kind. Maybe she could join the movement herself.
Molly cleaned her house thoroughly and packed enough clothes for two weeks for her, and Trev, and Julie; then she packed what food she had and placed everything in her lizard cart. her lizard's name was Mary and she was a gentle giant that ate bugs, leaves, and berries. Molly had driven her lizard cart for years and was not afraid to travel alone in Selve, but now she would have to worry about Rave finding her before she could reach the underground army. She checked to make sure there were enough coats and blankets, and then placed Mary's food-all she had-into the cart. Then she was as satisfied as she could make herself.
Molly sat down and wrote a short note to leave for Rave when he came home from work. She wrote that she had received a message from her Aunt Suzie who lived on a little farm in Northeast Selve; she needed help because she was sick and so Molly and the children would be back in a few days. She signed it, "Lots of love, Molly."
When the children came in from school, Molly pretended that they were going to play a game and have an adventure by taking Mary and the cart and going to visit Aunt Suzie until she was well. Her children were excited to get out of school for a few days and each took their favorite toy and book and climbed into the cart.
Molly encouraged Mary to travel sensibly in the city, but once they passed the city limits, Molly urged Mary to travel as quickly as possible. As soon as they were 10 miles out of Mano, the capital of Selve, Molly urged Mary down the bank of the Glandis River and across the river where it narrowed and turned slightly, slowing the force of its waters.
There, across the river, lay the foothills of the Vorask Forest. The trees seemed to stretch on forever but Molly saw a trail that seemed to delve deeply into the woods. She guided Mary slowly all along the trail but they could not go much farther because night was closing in very quickly.
Molly unhitched Mary, staked her out, and gave her something to eat and drink; then she made sandwiches for Trev, Julie, and herself. After eating and cleaning things up, Molly made beds in the cart for herself and the children and they all fell into a deep sleep.
Molly slowly woke up. She felt uncomfortable but did not understand why she should. She felt waves of energy and realized that they were not alone. She slowly opened her eyes and saw shadows falling on the cart. Could Rave have found her so soon?
"Ma'am, you have been captured by Wills Haddon and the Selve Resistance Movement. Rise, and tell us your name and your purpose in coming out here in the wild forest with two little children!"
"My name is Molly Gilbert and I come from Mano. I am fleeing a husband, Rave, who will not let me speak out in favor of the poor Wales. He said that if I spoke out he would divorce me and keep the children from me."
"Why would you tell such a story to me, a stranger? How do you know I will not kill you and the children?"
"Well, sir, you used the word 'children' when you spoke, instead of a harsher word, so I know you are a good man; at least polite. I have to trust you; I seem to have no choice."
"For now, you and the children will walk with me, while one of my soldiers brings along the lizard and cart. It's quite a walk but we can talk as we travel. I have a cabin deeper in the woods.
Tomorrow Molly begins a new life as a member of the SRM.
