GOG IS FURIOUS AT HIS COUNTRYMEN

Gog is furious at his subjects for revolting and lashes out at them.

THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Seventeen

Gog stood with his hands on his hips and stared out the window at the chaos below.

How dare my subjects resent my orders! They have to do as I command, or otherwise I'll hang the lot of them. That's it; hangings will begin tonight. That should do it.

Gog began to pace. Why are they so upset? Three days without rations wasn't so long a time, a little fasting will do them some good; besides, they could always catch fish or eat kelp.

You would think that a real man would want to serve his country, but these lay-abouts have no patriotic feelings. I'll show them, I bet they won't be grousing anymore when a few of their colleagues have their necks stretched.

At least they get rations when they work for me. And what is that about having their slave go in the army in their place? What a laugh! What do they take me for, a fool? Just wait and see what happens when I take the man and his slaves into the army.

Selve was in turmoil, and huge crowds, seething with rage, stormed Burgess Hall looking for the rations promised to them. Armed guards pushed the crowds back and set up a line for soldiers to get their rations. There was no line put up for the starving citizens.

Gog's soldiers were having a hard time gathering recruits. They knocked on doors and demanded that any male 16 to 35 years of age come with them immediately. They faced various reactions-all of them violent-from the newly shanghaied recruits: a punch in the face or stomach; a drawn weapon; or a knee to the groin followed by swiftly disappearing feet. However, the soldiers persevered, and by the end of the week they had corralled almost a thousand new recruits.

Keeping the recruits was another question. There were many new recruits found with bullets in their backs as Gog handed down a new law: if you resist service you can be shot on the spot or hung as Gog saw fit.

Hanging began that night. Fifty-seven Selve men of all ages were lined up along one street that had a number of tall trees, which came in handy for hangings. Gog had pictures of the hangings dispersed throughout Selve with great success.

Thirty-eight fishing boats went out on the ocean to fish and 32 came back. Six had taken on water and sunk; although the crews had been saved. The remaining 32 boats had managed a catch of only 16 tons in total. That would help the army but not begin to feed all of Selve.

General Avery chose his 80 spies carefully and placed Rave Gilbert and his men, in pairs, all along the border of Selve with the goal of infiltrating Emon, Voun, and Wale and finding out what their leaders were up to.

ANN:

It was 4:30 p.m., before I found Lucy and Alice hard at work in the Business offices. The first shipment of 1,000 soldiers were leaving for the Wale-Emon border in the morning and Lucy and Alice were making sure that they left with enough food and supplies to carry them over two weeks.

The supplies included fishing equipment in one cart, so the soldiers could catch fish from the Lantel River as long as they were stationed there. They could also fish the Opus River when they had marched that far.

Alice was busy registering the new weapons that Wills had sent over for them and preparing to receive the 1,000 guns from Miriam.

Lucy set me to figuring what kind of ammunition was needed to go along with the weapons they already had ready to go. I did an inventory of what we had, and a list of what we still needed.

We sent five groups of 1,000 men each to the Wale border over the next five days. Each group rode there in trucks, carts, and even private cars; once there, they set up the mess tent first and then dug holes for latrines. After these basics were accomplished the soldiers put up their own tents and were essentially ready to be trained. They went fishing once their tents were up and pretty soon they had several buckets full of trout ready for the mess sergeant.

Tomorrow Ann, Lucy, and Alice drive the extra weapons to the soldiers at the Wale-Emon border.
