Selve is in an uproar and Gog lashes out at the citizens of his own country.
THE GOD GAMES: Legend of KOR...Chapter Fourteen
All of Selve was in an uproar. The troops who had attacked Will's convoy had finally straggled back into Mano, telling tales of massive troop movements of some Selve and Voun soldiers in the direction of Wale.
Gog was beside himself. How dare anyone attack his men! How dare they think they can come against him! Well, he'd show them, to their eternal sorrow.
Standing in front of his generals, Gog said, "We are at WAR!
"General Vean, I want our borders tightened. Make sure that no traffic, except our military, can enter Selve. Second, I want every man between the ages of 16 and 35 to volunteer for the military; they are to be given no choice in the matter. If they can stand up and shoot a gun, they are enlisted."
"Yes, sir!" General Vean replied.
"General Avery, you are in charge of intelligence. I want spies out in force. Infiltrate those other countries and find out what's going on! Saturate the field! Second, I want you to start training thousands of new recruits. I want them field-ready in two weeks. Can you do this, or..."
"Oh, I can do it, sir!"
"Good.
"Now, General Lowe, I want you to get some carts and go house to house gathering all the food supplies that the people have. Spare no one; they will receive rations later in the day. Next, force all fishermen to go out in their boats every day and catch tons of fish; we have an army to feed,"
"Yes,sir! said General Lowe.
"General Rusk, you are in charge of putting together an enlarged new Army. I also want you to plan an attack on Voun, Emon, and Wale; simultaneously."
"Yes, sir!" replied General Rusk.
"I want you to roll into Emon, Voun, and Wale on Monday morning in two weeks time. I want them mowed down and utterly destroyed.
"Report back to me this evening at 9 p.m. You're dismissed!"
When his men had left to accomplish their tasks, Gog sank heavily onto his chair. He put his head in his hands and sat there waiting for inspiration; which came quickly.
This might be the final answer for his aims and goals. Now that they were at war he could rule with absolute power. Rationing and curfews would keep the people in line.
He got up and began pacing the floor. He needed to raise money if he was going to expand his army. Maybe a new tax, but what was left to tax? Ah, yes, the sugar beets. They were dirt cheap now; a little tax wouldn't even be noticed.
He sat down to write a speech that would inform all of the people, at one time, of the new rules and regulations. He would make a radio speech tonight and let the people know that they were at war with Emon, Voun, and Wale, and that there also seems to be some Selves who are consorting with the enemy. Anyone with information on who those Selves are will be given extra rations of food.
That evening at 7 p.m., Gog went on the radio and gave a speech that would soon bring great pain and suffering to his countrymen.
"My dear Countrymen, my heart is moved with sadness at the news I must give you tonight.
"We are at war with Emon, Vooun, and Wale. They have transgressed our borders and attacked our soldiers without provocation.
"There will be changes in your life, but you will grow and be strong from them. Have no fear, we will win this war.
"Starting this evening, there will be an enforced curfew of 10:00 p.m. for those 18 years of age and older, and 8:00 p.m. for those under 18 years of age.
"All foods will be strictly rationed. Today, we begin taking carts neighborhood to neighborhood to collect any food you may have. You will be given a receipt which you will take to Burgess Hall to claim your rations for a week.
"There will be no personal travel outside the borders of Selve. Our borders are closed, and all roads into and out of Selve will be used only by the military.
"Every man between the ages of 16 and 35 will enlist in the Army tomorrow, or within the next three days. No exceptions unless you cannot walk or stand alone.
"All fishermen, with any experience at all, will go out and fish everyday, and will bring the fish to Burgess Hall. You will receive a receipt for the fish that you can trade for rations.
"There will be a new tax on sugar beets of $.10 a pound. This tax will provide money needed for our enlarged army.
"General Rusk will be in command of the Army-under my direction. He will lead us to a sure victory, and then we will have won the entire land of Kor. You will have your choice of four lands to settle. There will be no more hunger or want and we shall be rid of every Wale in Kor.
"Now rest my countrymen, and prepare yourselves for a new fight, a great fight that will lead to sweet victory and total control over Kor. Good evening!"
Gog left the radio station without fielding any questions and went directly to his war room to await his generals. All of the generals arrived in the war room by 8:30 that night.
Tomorrow, the result of Gog's orders among his citizens.
