Today Wills gives Molly and the children the bad news of their father's death and Ed returns to the Wale Armory.
THE GOD GAMES: Legend of Kor...Chapter Seventeen
Early the next morning I was awakened by Wills tapping me on the shoulder. His face looked drawn and gray. "Tom, wake up Tom, I need to talk to you."
I got right up, dressed quickly, and then followed Wills to his room, which was now deserted.
"Tom, I don't know what to do. I went to see Molly, and we went for a walk and a talk. I told her that Bond and I had killed two of Gog's spies, She said that was good, but why such a gloomy face?"
I pulled out the pictures and gave them to her. "These are the two men we killed," I said.
I heard a rasping gasp as Molly looked at the pictures and then swayed and almost fell. I grabbed her and she apologized, then let out a huge tearful moan.
"Wills, oh Wills. It's Rave. One of those men is Rave. He's dead. Oh what am I going to do? How can I tell the children?"
"I'll help you Molly. We can tell the children together."
"I don't ever want them to know that you may have killed their father. I don't want to think it myself," cried Molly.
"I'm going to tell them that he was shot as a spy by one of General Coleman's soldiers, and just leave it at that."
Molly and I walked back to General Coleman's home and called for the children to come and walk with us. We took them about a mile to the Lora River and walked along the shore line. When we came to some benches we all sat down and Molly brought out the pictures.
"Trev, Julie, I have some really bad news for you; for us. On Tuesday, General Coleman sent spies out to see if there were any of Gog's spies infiltrating Wale, or Emon, or Voun. They found two spies and shot them. When they brought the pictures of them back to the General, I recognized one of the spies.
"It was a picture of your father and his partner. Your father is dead. I am so sorry."
Trev and Julie looked at the pictures then dissolved into tears and put their arms around their mother. I felt terrible as I watched their sorrow. I wish that I could sink into the ground.
I finally took Molly, Trev, and Julie back to General Coleman's house. I stayed for the next several hours and took turns turns with Molly comforting the children and holding them on our laps.
"At 10 a.m., I went to bed, but I was soon up again and I have been pacing the floor ever since," said Wills.
"Is Molly angry with you?"
"She doesn't appear to be, but given time to think I'm afraid she will be."
"Wills, my heart goes out to you; you did what you had to do. It is certainly not your fault that Rave was a spy for Gog. My advice to you is to forgive yourself and let time pass to heal Molly, and Trev, and Julie. This is war, and bad things happen to people in war. Given a few months time, Molly and the children will come around and love you again. Have patience Wills, all will work out for you and we have a war to win in the meantime."

ED:
I arrived at the armory at 4 p.m., and went to check in with Adam. He was busy with administrative work, but he got up when he saw me and gave me his famous bear hug.
"Well, my friend, all I have is 'grunt work' for you to do, but it is important grunt work, nothing can get done without it."
"Don't worry Adam, all work is honest and I'm just happy that I can be a part of this work. What would you like me to do?"
"Keep in touch with Lieutenant Lunt and act as his superior-which you are. Double-check that the base with all of its grounds and outhouses and latrines are kept sanitary and sparkling; you delegate, then leave it in Lieutenant Lunt's hands, then go around on constant inspections to check for problems and needs. Let me know if there is a problem that you can't solve on your own. Do you understand that this is a great responsibility? If we allow the base to deteriorate, then sickness can spread when we need all the men to be strong and well."
So from Monday afternoon to Saturday night I made rounds inspecting the base. But I believe in encouragement rather than punishment to get men to work, so the men and I got along famously and we all wanted to be proud of our work, and our base.
Tomorrow Tom and Ed get ready to return to the space ship with their friends and Glenna goes to help Miriam.
